Artist Statement

Maxim All’s paintings explore the threshold between the visible world and the deeper realities that move beneath it. Working through layered figurative painting, symbolic imagery, organic forms, and sacred geometry, he creates contemporary mythologies concerned with transformation, consciousness, and humanity’s relationship to the living world.

His practice is rooted in attentive listening: to the body, to dreams, to the intelligence of nature, and to the images that emerge from contemplative and expanded states of perception. Rather than illustrating predetermined ideas, Maxim allows each painting to unfold gradually through an intuitive process of accumulation. Figures, animals, plants, archetypal beings, and geometric structures are built through numerous translucent layers, forming interconnected visual ecosystems in which the personal and the universal meet.

Born in Germany, Maxim’s artistic language has been shaped by years of travel and immersion in spiritual and cultural landscapes extending from the Peruvian Andes and Amazon to the Indian Himalayas. Encounters with mythology, ancestral knowledge, meditative practice, and the ceremonial traditions of Indigenous communities have deepened his inquiry into the recurring symbols through which human beings attempt to understand existence. His work does not seek to reproduce any single tradition, but to trace the shared questions that appear across cultures: Where do we come from? What connects us? How can we remember our place within the greater web of life?

Maxim’s background as a professional dancer continues to inform his approach to painting. Movement, rhythm, tension, and embodiment remain central to his compositions. The body appears not as an isolated form, but as a permeable landscape—interwoven with animals, vegetation, memory, spirit, and cosmos.

For Maxim, painting is both an act of creation and a form of inquiry. Each work becomes a space in which inner experience can take material form: a portal for contemplation rather than a fixed statement. Through beauty, mystery, and symbolic density, his paintings invite viewers to slow down, look beyond the immediately recognizable, and encounter something that continues to reveal itself over time.

Ultimately, his work asks how art might restore a sense of participation in the sacredness of existence—not by offering answers, but by awakening attention, remembrance, and wonder.
